But Greta’s mission is not one of political niceties it is a crusade for political unification behind climate science. No one interested in simply playing nice openly chastises the United Kingdom parliament for its lack of action. In these lines and so many more in Greta’s book, we see a direct rejection of respectability politics. In the second speech at Davos, called “Our House Is on Fire,” Greta further laid out the science of her plea - namely, a call for a complete halt to greenhouse gas emissions in the pursuit of keeping global warming under 1.5° C - but also pointed directly to systemic change as the only means of achieving those goals: “Unless we recognize the overall failures of our current systems,” she warned, “we most probably don’t stand a chance.” ![]()
